Apple lowers the price of iPhones, iPads, Macs, AirPods, and more in China following VAT cut
Apple has lowered the prices of several key products in China, including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max following a reduction in China’s value-added tax (VAT) that went into effect earlier today with the hope of boosting the economy.
As noted by CNBC, the updated pricing sees the iPhone XR start at 6199 RMB, nearly five percent lower than its previous 6499 RMB price point, and both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have received a 500 RMB price cut. Apple has lowered the price of the newly released second-generation AirPods with regular charging case to 1,246 RMB, down slightly from 1,279 RMB.
The reduced VAT in China will be great news for Apple as it looks to boost sales in the country. Last quarter, Apple announced its first revenue warning in 16 years due to “fewer iPhone upgrades” than it anticipated and “significantly greater” than expected economic weakness in the Greater China region.
Customers who purchased a product from Apple prior to the VAT cut can return them to an Apple Store as part of the the regular fourteen day return policy. Upon returning the products, customers can then re-purchase the items at the new retail price.
