Apple reveals ‘all-new’ TV app with new ‘Apple TV Channels’, and more
Apple has announced an upgraded version of its TV app for iOS will be arriving later in the year, adding a new ‘Apple TV Channels’ feature that allows users to clearly pay for only the content/channels they want, ad-free, on-demand, and all within one app.
The all-new app has been redesigned with new curation features that use advanced machine learning to determine content you might like. The “Watch Now” tab helps you determine what to watch next. There are also new, redesigned tabs for Movies, TV Shows, Sports, Kids and Library.
Taking to the stage, Apple says the focus of the new TV app is to help you find new content to watch. You can swipe between TV shows, add them to your “Up Next” queue, and Netflix-like support for automatic trailer playback.
For the very first time Apple is launching the TV app outside the Apple ecosystem. The application will be available on LG, Sony, Samsung, and Vizio televisions, as well as Roku and Fire TV. – Apple also noted the TV app will later arrive on Mac for the first time too.
The upgraded “second-generation” Apple TV app will be available to users in May, with the application launching in over 100 countries.
