Apple releases iOS 12.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Apple has released iOS 12.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
iOS 12.2 sees the introduction of a whole host of upgrades to iOS as seen throughout Apple’s beta cycle.
The Wallet app has had a handful of minor tweaks such as relocating the info button to the top of the display and a new “Done” button instead of an option to tap other cards at the bottom of the app. – Apple is also changing the way you see your recent Wallet transactions by showing a longer history in the app.
Apple is also now paving a way for users to add their TVs to HomeKit following the recent announcements that brand such as LG and Samsung will offer AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support through software updates and as standard with future TV models.
Maps now shows a new option to display Air Quality alongside weather readings, and Safari is now clearly labelling websites that do not use a secure HTTPS connection with a “Not Secure” tag in the address bar, something previously hidden in iOS until a user tried entering sensitive information, such as an email address or password, into the site.
Apple News is expanding to users in Canada, offering content in both English and French. The update sees Apple ditch the newspaper icon design on iOS and the accompanying watchOS application, with the company now using a white background for all three applications with the letter N taking center stage.
Topping off the update, Apple is including four new Animoji characters, a giraffe, a shark, an owl, and a warthog, which iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR users and owners of the Face ID-equipped 2018 iPad Pro will be able to use.
There’s a redesigned Screen Mirroring icon in the Control Center that features two displays rather than a single display and an arrow, and the TV Remote feature in Control Center has been redesigned with a more streamlined look that takes advantage of the entire display and does away with the large Home button. The TV Remote also has a new dark interface, which was added in beta 3.
Apple’s newly released all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air and updated iPad mini both require iOS 12.2, and so do the second-generation AirPods with “Hey Siri” support.
