Apple could unveil new ‘Netflix for Games’ subscription service during “It’s show time.” event
Apple may unveil a new ‘Netflix for Games’ subscription service during “It’s show time.” event on Monday reports Bloomberg author Mark Gurman, claiming Apple is looking to launch a new service that allows iOS users access to a range of pay-to-download gaming applications for one single monthly fee.
We first heard reports about the rumored new pay-monthly gaming service back in January, with sources claiming Apple had been holding private discussions with developers regarding a project then said to be in the early stages of development which could see Apple act as a publisher for the titles joining the service, allowing the company to sign developers with exclusivity deals that result in a series of gaming titles only being available to download on Apple products.
According to Gurman, the premium games subscription service could be unveiled as soon as Monday.
Apple is also working on a premium games subscription for its App Store and discussing it with potential partners, according to people with knowledge of the plans. This service won’t take on new cloud-based streaming offerings like Google Stadia. Instead, it will focus on iPhones and iPads and bundle together paid games from different developers that consumers can access for a monthly fee.
Despite the claims in the report Gurman notes he isn’t certain the service will debut on Monday, although with the “It’s show time.” event set to be fully focused on software and services, it is possible Apple could at least give us a glimpse into the new project.
