Apple’s new ‘iPad mini 5’ to keep same design as current generation model, featuring Touch ID and headphone jack
Apple’s forthcoming ‘iPad mini 5’ is again said to be a simple spec bump, retaining the same design as the current model released in 2015, featuring a Lightning connector, Touch ID, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Over the past couple of months numerous sources have claimed Apple will breathe life into its ageing iPad mini, although those waiting for an upgrade shouldn’t expect any major design enhancements other than a “relocated mic, centered on the upper back panel.”, notes leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) who claims to have received alleged CAD renderings of the new tablet.
Just like the rumored new iPod touch, Apple is expected to keep the next generation iPad mini, dubbed the iPad mini 5 as a low-cost, entry level iOS device to allow customers access to Apple’s range of paid subscription services, such as Apple Music.
The enhanced iPad mini may feature support for the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, with code revealing unreleased iPad hardware internally codenamed J210, J211, J217, and J218 hinting Apple could bring support for the once iPad Pro-exclusive accessories to the new affordable device.
Apple’s rumored iPad mini 5 is expected to arrive sooner rather than later, with some suggesting the device, alongside Apple’s new AirPods could be available for pre-order as soon as March 29th.
