Apple to keep the Lightning connector on the new iPhone XI, USB-C not arriving until 2020 at the earliest
Long Live Lightning: Apple will reportedly keep the Lightning connector on the next-generation flagship iPhone despite rumors that suggested 2019 could be the year the company introduces USB-C to the iPhone for the very first time.
The report comes from Japanese site Macotakara who claim Apple will continue to bundle the same 5W charger and USB-A to Lightning cable in the box of the rumored iPhone XI in 2019 to help reduce component costs, meaning customers wanting to fast charge their iPhone will have to buy accessories, such as the 12W iPad charger to enable faster charging speeds.
Macotakara suggests keeping the Lightning connector on the next-generation iPhone is simply to maintain production costs. It’s not clear if the cost savings of this decision would be passed on to consumers with lower 2019 iPhone pricing.
