Apple News to launch in Canada with upcoming iOS 12.2 update
As part of the first iOS 12.2 beta today, Apple is expanding the availability of Apple News to Canada for the first time, with news sources available in both English and French.
Canada is set to be the first country to gain the service outside of the initial three Apple News launch countries (US, UK and Australia) – allowing readers to access the latest news from publishers and news sources around the world.
The release notes for the Canadian beta of Apple News warns Top Stories and Digests will-not be updated during the testing period as frequently as they will be when News launches fully in the country alongside the public release of the software.
Apple News will be available in Canada with iOS 12.2, and is now available for Canadian users on the developer beta. Apple News in Canada supports both English and French. Readers can access a bilingual experience when they follow a channel in a second language. Note: Publications in the beta do not reflect all content that will be available. Top Stories and Digests are not updated as frequently as they will be in the shipping product.
The expansion comes as reports suggest Apple is preparing a new Apple News Premium subscription-based service, allowing readers to access paid content from publishers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
