Apple briefly mentions AirPower on Smart Battery Case webpage
Apple introduced new Smart Battery Cases on Tuesday for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, for the first time adding Qi charging support to the accessory which allows customers to top-up the charge of their mobile battery case by resting the unit on any Qi wireless charging mat.
As spotted by those checking out the cases on Apple.com, the description for the new accessories clearly mentioned how AirPower, Apple’s long-awaited wireless charging mat will be able to charge the Smart Battery Case before Apple swiftly updated the description to remove any mentioning of the unreleased charging pad.
Very little is known about AirPower, although reports earlier this week suggested the long-awaited wireless charging mat had finally been sent into production, with a “credible source” within the supply chain confirming Chinese supplier Luxshare Precision is Apple’s chosen AirPower manufacturer, the same firm who produces AirPods and USB-C cables for the company, with other key Apple supplier Pegatron reportedly beginning AirPower manufacturing from January 21.
According to Rene Ritchie the Smart Battery Case user guide doesn’t include any mentioning of AirPower. Who knows what is going on with AirPower, it’s all one big mystery. Given that the Smart Battery Case for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR do support Qi wireless charging then it will most likely be compatible with AirPower, but at this point it’s still unknown if and when the product will launch at all.
