Long-awaited AirPods wireless charging case to arrive in early 2019 alongside minor spec upgrade
Apple’s long-awaited wireless charging case for AirPods is expected to arrive in early 2019 alongside a minor spec upgrade to AirPods themselves according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The report today claims the wireless charging case for AirPods that was previewed alongside AirPower at the launch of the iPhone X in September 2017 may finally be making its way onto store shelves over the next six months, with Kuo reporting an ‘upgraded model with wireless charging support’ will launch alongside an enhanced pair of AirPods, expected to feature Bluetooth 5.0.
The wireless charging case for AirPods has always been mentioned alongside AirPower, but Kuo’s report today didn’t mention the infamous wireless charging mat, although an earlier note published by the analyst said he expected AirPower to arrive in late 2018 (which is very unlikely now), or early 2019.
Ming-Chi Kuo said AirPods are Apple’s most popular accessory ever, with a forecast expecting unit sales rising from 16 million units in 2017 to over 100 million by 2021. Within the note published today, Kuo said he expects Apple to release an ‘all-new design’ for AirPods in 2020, you can read more here.
