Apple releases watchOS 5.1.1 following bricking issues with the previous update
Apple has released watchOS 5.1.1 following the failed release of watchOS 5.1 last week which saw the update bricking some Apple Watch models, making them unresponsive when trying to update to the latest software version.
The update today fixes a handful of other bugs found within watchOS 5, including an issue that could cause an incomplete installation of the Walkie-Talkie app for some users, an issue that prevented some users from being able to send or receive invitations on Walkie-Talkie and addresses an issue where some previously earned Activity awards were not showing in the Awards tab of the Activity app.
watchOS 5.1.1 also adds a small improvement to the way it handles falls detected for Apple Watch Series 4 wearers. Apple says with watchOS 5.1.1, the watch will now also play a message that informs the responder that Apple Watch has detected a fall and shares your location coordinates when possible.
- Apple Watch Series 4 automatically contacts emergency services if you are immobile for about a minute after detecting a hard fall. The watch will now also play a message that informs the responder that Apple Watch has detected a fall and shares your location coordinates when possible.
