Apple confirms not all iOS 12 devices will support Group FaceTime
One of the most highly requested features from iOS users leading up to the reveal of iOS 12 in June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference was the ability to make group FaceTime calls, and luckily Apple has answered those wishes, although the feature missed its original planned release of September alongside the main iOS 12 release.
With the release of iOS 12.1 looming, Apple has confirmed that the highly requested feature won’t be making its way onto each and every device running iOS 12. Within Apple’s user guide for iOS 12.1, the company notes that a number of iOS handsets (full list below), including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus won’t be able to use the Group FaceTime video calling feature.
Apple’s older iPhone and iPad hardware with an A8 chip or earlier doesn’t appear to be able to support Group FaceTime, likely due to the performance power needed to talk simultaneously with 32 people at once.
