Google said to be paying Apple $9 billion to remain default search engine in Safari on iOS
Analysts are suggesting Google could end up paying in excess of $9 billion to remain the default search engine in Safari on iOS this year, with the figure potentially climbing up to $12 billion in 2019, according to reports.
Industry analyst Rod Hall, cited by Business Insider reported on Friday that the two companies are talking billions when discussing pricing to remain the default search engine on iOS, with 2018 seeing Google shell out more than ever before, up from over $3 billion that was said to have been paid by the company in 2017.
Despite the somewhat interesting relationship between Apple and Google, Hall shares that “Apple is one of the biggest channels of traffic acquisition for Google.”, meaning if the company were to back out of negotiations and let another company such as Yahoo, Bing or DuckDuckGo takeover, Google company could see a huge drop in revenue and daily users.
