iPhone X outperforms new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in battery life test
iPhone X has outperformed the newly released iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in battery life tests performed by Tom’s Guide, with the publication sharing that when pushed to the limits with continuous LTE browsing the battery on the 2017 iPhone X lasted for nearly 11 hours, compared to 9 hours and 41 minutes on the iPhone XS.
With displays set to 150 nits of brightness, and both auto-brightness and TrueTone disabled, Tom’s Guide found that surprisingly despite Apple’s claim that the iPhone XS would last 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X, and the iPhone XS Max would last 90 minutes longer, this actually isn’t the case in some scenarios.
As shown below, both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max outperformed rivals such as the HTC U12+ that lasted for 9 hours, 13 minutes during the tests, as well as the LG G7 ThinQ which lasted for 8 hours, 35 minutes. – Apple wasn’t able to beat Google’s Pixel 2 or Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9. – Huawei’s P20 Pro was the strongest smartphone tested, keeping its charge for 14 hours and 13 minutes.
The iPhone XS Max turned in a run time of 10 hours and 38 minutes, which is well above the smartphone category average of 9:48. However, the iPhone XS lasted for just 9:41, which is slightly below the average. Last year’s iPhone X lasted 10:49 on the same test, despite claims from Apple that the iPhone XS was supposed to last 30 minutes longer.
Battery life changes dramatically depending on what you’re doing on your phone and the conditions in which it is being used. Apple mentioned during its September 2018 event that the iPhone XS can last up to 12 hours during internet use, while the iPhone XS Max lasts up to 13 hours, but the results today show this isn’t necessarily the case.
