New low-cost iPhone to ship “slightly later” due earlier to production delays
Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most accurate Apple analysts has shared his latest predictions on what will be released during Apple’s fall iPhone event, suggesting that the forthcoming 6.1-inch “low-cost” iPhone model will ship “slightly later” than the other models launching at the event, possibly due to production delays reported in July.
Similarly to the launch of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X last year, Apple will likely announce the two devices together during its event next month but only release the low-cost 6.1-inch device once stock levels hit a certain point.
Although Kuo didn’t specifically mention what had caused the delay, The Apple Post reported in July that problems with the device’s backlighting system have caused a 1 month delay in mass production. At the time of the initial report sources claimed suppliers had been able to cut the original delay down from 6-weeks to 4-weeks, but it looks as if since then they haven’t been able to overcome the earlier delay all together.
Just like the iPhone X, the 6.1-inch model is said to feature a full edge-to-edge display with the same slimline bezels and TrueDepth Camera System to allow for Face ID, and of course Animoji and Memoji coming with iOS 12.
Unlike the iPhone X, the low-cost 6.1-inch model is said to only feature one single camera on the rear (just like the iPhone 8), meaning its unlikely that customers will benefit from Portrait Mode, Apple’s depth-of-field photography feature. The device will most-likely feature an aluminum frame instead of a stainless steel frame, but will be equipped ready for wireless charging.
The new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is expected to be priced between $600 – $800.
