Supplier “confirms” Apple won’t include headphone adaptor with new iPhone models
Apple’s supplier of the small Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter that has been bundled with the iPhone 7 and later has apparently “confirmed” that the dongle won’t be included in the box of Apple’s new 2018 iPhone models.
After the accessory launched in 2016 when the company ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone, Apple appears to be further pushing their “truly wireless future,” by encouraging customers to purchase wireless headphones (e.g. AirPods), or to use the wired headphones that connect through the device’s charging port.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen reports that Apple is planning to ditch the dongle. Earlier in the year Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis claimed Apple would stop including the accessory with future iPhone models, although the report didn’t note if Apple would stop selling the accessory and retire it all together, or if it will continue to offer the adapter online and at Apple retail locations despite it being missing from the box.
