Apple to sell subscription streaming services through TV app
A new report from Bloomberg claims Apple is planning to sell paid subscription streaming services through its TV app available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
The new subscription service built into the TV app would mean users could subscribe to streaming services without leaving the application and visiting a third-party, such as Netflix, directly. Apple TV users would have the option to purchase a paid subscription through the TV app, in return earning Apple a commission from the sale.
Apple’s TV app expanded into France, Germany and the United Kingdom in December. Apple has built the Apple TV app so that it works across your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. For example, you could pause a movie you are watching at home on your iPad and pick it up later on your iPhone.
For the first time, Apple plans to begin selling subscriptions to certain video services directly via its TV app, rather than asking users to subscribe to them through apps individually downloaded from the App Store, according to people familiar with the matter.
Apple is said to be planning to introduce the new subscription feature “in the next year.”
