New 6.1-inch LCD iPhone expected to outsell premium OLED models
Sources have been claiming that Apple is in the midst of preparing an new, lower-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone for some time now, and new reports today by KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, dubbed the “best Apple analyst on the planet” by some claim that the device will outsell Apple’s unreleased 2018 OLED iPhone models.
As the industry moves towards OLED screens, reduced pricing for LCD components will give Apple the room it needs to lower the overall retail price of the device and attract customers who simply cannot afford the high price tag of the iPhone X.
Alongside the new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone the Cupertino company is expected to launch an update to the existing iPhone X which will feature a smaller TrueDepth Camera system on the front, improved internals and a larger battery, alongside an iPhone X Plus with all the features of the new iPhone X as well as a larger screen.
Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will apparently be available in a selection of metal back finishes, similar to the iPhone 7 line, unlike the iPhone X which is only available in Space Gray and Silver.
