Apple sees record-breaking $300 million worth of App Store purchases on New Year’s Day
Apple has announced today that App Store purchases on New Year’s Day this year have been record-breaking for the company, with Apple bringing in over $300 million worth of purchases worldwide, with customers reportedly spending more than $890 million during the seven-day holiday period.
In an update shared to the official Apple Newsroom, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing said “In 2017 alone, iOS developers earned $26.5 billion — more than a 30 percent increase over 2016.”
ARKit based app Pokémon Go reportedly topped the App Store charts on December 21st following an update which added new augmented reality features, with Apple adding that the App Store now has close to 2,000 ARKit-enabled apps available for download.
We are thrilled with the reaction to the new App Store and to see so many customers discovering and enjoying new apps and games,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We want to thank all of the creative app developers who have made these great apps and helped to change people’s lives. In 2017 alone, iOS developers earned $26.5 billion — more than a 30 percent increase over 2016.
Apple reports that since the App Store launched in July 2008, iOS developers have earned over $86 billion.
