Apple reportedly developing L-shaped batteries for 2018 OLED iPhone line
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo, dubbed one of the most accurate and reliable voices on all things Apple, new L-shaped batteries are being developed for Apple’s 2018 OLED iPhone line.
The new, more powerful batteries could allow for a 10% stronger charge compared to the iPhone X, with Apple expected to pack a battery capacity of between 2,900mAh and 3,000mAH on the next generation device.
Apple has already experimented with an L-shaped battery, with the company building two battery cells that roughly form an “L” shape in the iPhone X’s chassis. – KGI’s report hints Apple had intended to use a single-cell L-shaped battery within this years iPhone release, however the technology was not ready in time to ship.
Ming Chi Kuo predicts Apple will release a 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED iPhone and a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model during 2018.
