Within a statement today Apple has announced that their Amazon Echo-like AI speaker device, HomePod, will be delayed, with the company scrapping their original release date of December to some point in ‘early 2018’.
It’s unclear what has caused the delay, however it’s likely that the hold-up has been caused within production.
In a statement to TechCrunch the company said…
We can’t wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple’s breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it’s ready for our customers. We’ll start shipping in the U.S., U.K. and Australia in early 2018.
HomePod features an Apple-designed 4-inch woofer powered by Apple’s A8 chip; the speaker is cased in a mesh with a display at the top that shows the familiar Siri icon when a user prompts the device. HomePod will be able to play music, read the news, send and receive iMessages, set reminds, listen to Podcasts, provide answers to general questions, check the weather and perform many other tasks.
