Apple said to be in talks with China’s biggest battery maker for their electric car codenamed ‘Project Titan’
According to China’s Yicai Global, Apple has been in talks with CATL, China’s largest automotive battery maker in regards to the two companies working together on a “confidential project” believed to be related to the development of Apple’s electric car internally codenamed ‘Project Titan’.
‘Project Titan’ reports are few and far between. It was once claimed Apple would introduce a fully self-driving vehicle however, it’s now believed that the ‘Apple Car’ will be fully electric and feature some sort of driving assistance technology, backed up by Tim Cook who called electric cars ‘marvellous’ and describing self-driving technology as an ‘incredibly exciting’ field in an interview after WWDC in June.
While the report claims that unsurprisingly neither Apple or CATL commented on the meeting, China’s Yicai Global notes:
“The Cupertino-based tech titan is working with Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. (CATL), a battery manufacturer in China’s Fujian province, on a scheme based on a confidentiality agreement. The parties are working together in the field of batteries, sources involved with the cooperation said.”
