Apple drops prices for USB-C adapters due to MacBook Pro reaction
With the release of the newest MacBook Pro you won’t find the typical USB-A port. Now you will only find USB-C ports available for things such as video, charging and other peripheral devices. In an attempt to help smooth the transition, Apple has appeared to have temporarily dropped the prices on many of its USB-C adapters.
You can now grab a standard USB-C to USB adapter for only $9. This is a $10 price reduction from the original $19 price tag. You’ll also currently find these other adapters on sale as well:
– Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter -$29 (previously $49)
– USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter -$49 (previously $69)
– USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter -$49 (previously $69)
– USB-C to Lightning Cable (1m) -$19 (previously $25)
Some 3rd party accessories also appear to be seeing the same treatment. SanDisk’s USB-C SD card reader is currently seeing a $20 discount, bringing it down to only $29. Customers who have already purchased one of these USB-C adapters have also been notified by Apple that they will be receiving a refund for the difference in price. Customers who currently have pending orders will also automatically see a price drop.
This move comes after a negative reaction was given towards the new MacBook Pro. Apple later gave a statement to The Verge saying:
“We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition. We want to help them move to the latest technology and peripherals, as well as accelerate the growth of this new ecosystem. Through the end of the year, we are reducing prices on all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals we sell, as well as the prices on Apple’s USB-C adapters and cables.”
